Radio Presenters at Phase Radio Wales set to fundraise with a 24-hour marathon show

24 Hours of fun and a lack of sleep for two presenters

Presenters Karen Woodham and Will-Tomlinson-Roberts who do the mid-week and Saturday show will be attempting to do a 24-hour marathon fundraising radio show at the Ty Pendre Studio in Prestatyn starting at 9 am.

Karen Woodham and Will Tomlinson-Roberts, who present the mid-week and Saturday shows, will be attempting a non-stop 24-hour marathon fundraising radio show, at the Ty Pendre Studio in Prestatyn, starting at 9 am on Saturday 5th October, all the way through to 9 am on Sunday the 9th.

Karen and Will's 24-hour marathon will be raising funds in aid of the community station and various local charities.

Phase Radio Wales was launched in January 2019, since then, the station has built up a following in the Prestatyn Community, as the 'go-to' station for local information, upcoming events, and promoting local businesses and charities.

Phase Radio Wales, has a selection of shows with various presenters from the area and further afield, bringing their own style of presentation and music to the station.
With their own unique 'whacky style', Karen and Will have been quoted as being “the Craziest Radio Show on the North Wales coast” and “the show to listen to, to brighten up your day and bring a big smile to your face”.

Karen said, “Having a show on Phase Radio Wales is an honour, and to be able to work alongside some great fellow presenters at the community radio station not only makes it fun, but also a pleasure to be involved with such a great team. Will and I have our own style of show that has become much loved and enjoyed by our listeners.”

Will said, “I am honoured to be given the opportunity to be involved with community radio at Phase Radio Wales. The experience I have gained from co-hosting with Karen has been invaluable, and Karen is a pleasure to work with, as are all the other fantastic presenters and volunteers who manage the station. Our unique style of show is fun and quite different from other shows and really enjoyed by our listeners.

Graham Bevins said, “Phase Radio is lucky to have such talented and crazy presenters, who are mad enough to go without sleep, to bring us a fantastic itinerary of events packed into a 24 hour period. Karen and Will's dedication to the station is superb and it's great to have them on board.

Karen and Will have been joined by some amazing guests since they started their mid-week and Saturday Shows, including MistaFunk and the Deadbeats, Ed Evers-Swindell (director of Dark Signal), and the team behind the upcoming movie ‘Me, Myself and Di’. They also have more exciting guests lined up for their upcoming shows, including local band The Montagues and CELAVI, who are both appearing soon on their Saturday Showcase, that puts local and upcoming bands in the spotlight.

The 24-hour show, will include past guests popping in for a catch-up and showing their support, as well as some new guests to join in the fun. Costa in Prestatyn have kindly offered their support for Karen and Will, promising to supply plenty of coffee to keep them awake, as well as Judith Bond Cakes who will be supplying delicious treats for them and their guests. We also have some auction prizes kindly donated by The Art of Fish and Going Potty with Sam.

It promises to be a fun-filled 24 hours to remember! If you would like to support/donate to the 24 Hour fundraiser, then you can pop in the studio or head to the GoFundMe Page. The show starts on 5th October 2019 at 9 am.

Belinda Carlisle Brings her Runaway Horses to Wrexham

BELINDA CARLISLE ‘Runaway Horses 30th Anniversary’ UK Tour comes to WREXHAM – William Aston Hall on Sunday 29th September 2019!

If you were listening to the Saturday Show with Karen and Will you would have heard about the brilliant news that Belinda Carlisle is bringing a tour date to Wrexham and it's going to a gig that you don't want to miss.

American singer Belinda Carlisle announces she’s back on the road with a very special UK tour this Autumn with the ‘Runaway Horses 30th Anniversary Tour’ in September & October 2019 performing a selection of tracks taken from her 3rd solo album ‘Runaway Horses’.

Belinda Carlisle's first venture into music was a brief stint as drummer for the punk band The Germs, under the name Dottie Danger, although illness (specifically mononucleosis) prevented her from ever performing with them live. Soon after leaving this band, she founded The Go-Go's (originally named The Misfits), with friend and fellow music novice Jane Wiedlin. With bassist-turned-guitarist Charlotte Caffey, guitarist-turned-bassist Kathy Valentine, and drummer Gina Schock, the Go-Go's became one of the most successful American bands of the early 1980s, helping usher new wave music into popular American radio, and becoming the first all-female band in rock history to ever achieve a #1 album, who also wrote their own music, and played their own instruments. The Go-Go's recorded two more studio albums (including 1982 Vacation, which went gold thanks to the title track). "Head over Heels," from their 1984 album Talk Show, made it to #11, but they never repeated the success of their 1981 multi-platinum debut, Beauty and the Beat, which featured the hits "We Got the Beat" and "Our Lips Are Sealed".

The Montagues New Single, Video and Saturday Showcase

On the Karen Woodham show on Saturdays, Karen and Will like to introduce their Saturday Showcase, a part of the show that they "showcase" a band that they have been blown away by, this week's Saturday Showcase has gone to The Montagues, the 4 piece North Wales band that Karen and Will have been shouting about for weeks.

This week The Montagues were chosen because of the brilliant new single and video taken from their debut EP.

Nothing to Everything is the second single from the EP and is certainly a track that shows the diversity and power that the band can produce, The Montagues formed in late 2018 with Jack on Drums, Mike on Guitar, Jon on Bass and Kyle on Vocals and Guitar, the guys are a band that has a punchy drum bass-driven riffs feel with what can only be described as stadium-sized choruses that are a not only a delight to listen to but are well constructed for the musical style.

The video for the new single release looks amazing and here at Phase Radio Wales we love it, it's such an honour that the band sent over the new single for Karen to check out and to play on Phase Radio Wales, a worthy entry for the Saturday Showcase.

If you would like to find out more about The Montagues then check them out at Facebook, twitter - @montaguesmusic, Instagram - @montaguesmusic and soundcloud.com/montaguesmusic.

Gwrych Castle in Abergele to Get Medieval in August

If you've not seen or heard the news on the mid-week and Saturday Show with Karen Woodham and Will Tomlinson-Roberts, then let us tell you about what's happening at Gwrych Castle on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th August, the castle celebrating all things medieval for the weekend.

The amazing Castle in Abergele will be bringing folk tales to life and the medieval world of knights and fair maidens, as noble warriors take to their steeds to fight for glory, there will be mystical wizards casting spells and up to no good, look out for the medieval characters that will be roaming the castle (the perfect opportunity to grab photo of the characters from a time gone by).

Sticking with the medieval theme during the weekend, there will be a hog roast to keep those rumbling tums at bay, as well as a collection of food stalls for a variety of tasty treats to keep you topped up throughout the weekend's festivities.

Don't worry about leaving your four-legged friends out of the fun, they can come along as well (as long as they are kept on their leads), you can give them a chance to taste some dog-friendly ice cream to keep them cool during the warm spell that is expected.

There will be so much to keep you entertained during the Saturday and Sunday, along with the knights and maidens, there will also be dancers, music, birds of prey displays and face painting for you to enjoy during your visit, if you want to remember your visit and the fun you have, then you can visit the crafts stalls that will have an assortment of souvenirs to take home. Charities will also be there to greet you and welcome your support for their amazing causes.
